Sent this back home from Dubai.This is a replica of the most expensive license plate in the world. This plate was auctioned in the United Arab Emirates in the city of Abu Dhabi in the Emirate of the same name and the capital of the UAE.
This number "1" plate was auctioned for 52,200,000 UAE Dirhams or about 14,000,000 US dollars. This replica is of the rear plate, the front plate being longer with the red portion at the left of the plate with "5" in white in it. The rest of the plate is black on white with the Country name and Emirate name in arabic followed by the single digit 1. On the front plate the "1" has a bottom piece on the number while the rear plate does not. I am not sure the meaning of the number "5" as I believe that is a vehicle class code and not part of the serial number. This plate is in the current Abu Dhabi passenger style which was first issued about 2006. Below are some links about this plate and it’s significance.

NOTE: The true value is not in the license plate itself but the registration rights to it is what counts. In countries like Hong Kong, Australia, The UK, New Zealand and Thailand and other countries the registration rights to a certain number can be bought traded and sold for profit and/or investment. In the US, Delaware #6 went for about 600,000 dollars.

My watch strap broke a couple of weeks ago. Because it was just a cheap digital, I decided to get a whole new watch. I’m not impressed by expensive watches but I love unusual things, so I grabbed this off eBay, and it showed up today. It’s a Russian watch commemorating an expedition that landed planes on the North Pole in 1937, but the most unusual feature is that it has a 24 hour dial, not 12. Which, when you think about it, is far more logical, because there’s no natural 12 hour cycle in the day.

"Sunglasses at Night" is the platinum-selling song recorded by Corey Hart. It was the first single to be released off his debut album, 1984′s First Offense, and rose to #7 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song is considered by many to be a classic of 1980s New Romantic music, combining synthesizer pop, obscure lyrics and an almost Gothic ambiance in a hypnotic epic.
The original lyrics for the song were about a totalitarian society that made everyone wear their sunglasses at night; however under pressure from Hart’s record company to make something more marketable, the song was altered to be more "romantic."
The video, however, reflects the original vision of a police state, with scenes of Hart, sans-sunglasses, being strong-armed by police officers and paraded past various citizens wearing their regulation shades. Near the end of the video, Hart is brought to the office of a female police officer, played by Laurie Brown, who later became the host of The NewMusic as well as a VJ on MuchMusic.
