URWERK was the teaming in 1995 of two watch making brothers, Felix and Thomas Baumgartner and artist friend Martin Frei. They share a passion for measuring and portraying time. Models: 103T (103), CCI, 203 Inspired by the 17 century Campanus Night clock, the team decided to present time by removing all extraneous indications and distractions. The name Urwerk consists of two references. Ur is the city where giant sundials where built 6000 years ago, and the 12 units of time were conceived. In the German language, ‘werk’ means to work or create. URWERK SA was launched in 1997 with one overriding aim: to follow nobody but to create their own path in pushing the boundaries of haute horlogerie ever further. They presented their first timepiece with the AHCI at Basel that same year. URWERK work closely in collaboration with the specialist micro-engineering atelier Christian Gros SA. This association provides them with access to a range of high quality skills and high-tech CNC machinery. When Harry Winston Rare Timepieces approached Urwerk with the proposal of collaboration for their Opus collection, everyone was enthusiastic about the project.
