The picture is me, at the Green Room, waiting to teleport down to the
first panel of the Healthcare programming track for the conference. I
was told that they are expecting between 5,000-6,000 avatars to attend
the conference, but I don’t have a clue how they count this. I do know
that at one point we had four people on six computers watching
multiple simultaneous presentations in a room in the main library on
campus. I was there 8 hours putting this up on screen. Everytime I was
ready for a break, something else amazing was presented and would drag
me away. I was 4 hours late eating dinner because there were too many
wonderful presentations. And that is on a Friday night! Between us, we
saw presentations about:
* conversation robots,
* accessible design,
* artificial intelligence,
* social networking for scientists,
* live music performances as education and outreach,
* video production,
* programming & scripting,
* assistive technology usage patterns,
* different question & answer behaviors by students in virtual worlds,
* a MoonWalk simulation & training exercise,
* mass casualty triage simulations
* verifying research data integrity in Second Life research
and much much more.
I am already really tired, and there is still tomorrow! If you haven’t
already seen it, check out their website. Don’t think you need to
attend in Second Life. If you don’t have an avatar yet, you can watch
the keynote presentations on Treet.tv.

We are immense speed skating fans. We like to watch all the world cup events, preferably in the comfort of our own home, even though last weekend the world´s best skaters were only 100 miles away in Heereveen, NL.
On TV, you get so much more detail than in the rink itself. And the lack of atmosphere is totally made up by having our kitties around.
You can imagine that we were thrilled to see that Murmurs is developing an active interest in watching speed skating as well.

Located in northeast Israel, the Hula Valley serves as one of the prime wintering sites in the Middle East for a wide variety of birds.
This area is one of the best bird-watching regions in the world.
There are 390(!) bird species in the area and the season lasts from October
until the end of March.
